Mango Tone Ranger Effects Pedal
The quest for vintage tone continues here. During the sixties the Dallas Rangemaster helped mould the tone of many a famous guitarist. It is believed that Eric Clapton, Rory Gallaher, Brian May, Tony Iommi and Richie Blackmoore all used the Rangemaster to great effect in their early careers, and many have tried to emulate these tones since. Firstly the Rangemaster is a treble booster giving up to 24dB of boost above 1-2kHz. But that's not all. As a result of the use of OC44 germanium transistors and careful biasing, there is a subtle distortion added which increases on loud notes. It's touch sensitive and frequency dependent and is at its best when driving a good valve amp (like ours) into overdrive.
We have taken the original circuit, found some very good 40 year old Mullard OC44s (which we carefully select for gain, leakage and noise), made a few enhancements such as true bypass, a treble/mid boost switch and a status LED, and packaged it into a beautifully made pedal which allows you to recreate that tone.
